Let’s do it! Contact jeff@bicyclemusicfestival.com.
Scouting Locations
Please let us know if you’ve found an awesome spot for a future pedal-powered concert. Email Gabe@bicyclemusicfestival.com
Our featured LiveOnBike performers, the Ginger Ninjas and SF opera singers, will be standing on an 8′ wide mobile stage towed by an electric cargo bike. We’ve been wanting to elevate our LiveOnBike performers and provide a more comfortable performance platform. The new stage will allow our LiveOnBike acts to sing, dance, and get our festival rocking all the way to our night venue. See lots of great LiveOnBike videos at LiveOnBike.com
Better sound! More Pedal Power generators!
Our Pedal Powered Stage will be twice as powerful as last year’s! 12 pedalers will allow us to run a 4000-watt system, complete with a dedicated subwoofer for rich, danceable bass! Our recent experience building a 16-bike system with a group in New York has shown that more generators makes a big difference. So we’re building up new ones just in time and calling out to the Pedal Power community for more.
Ice Cream Bike!
Rock The Bike recently finished an amazing Pedal Powered Ice Cream maker for a creamery in Brooklyn, NY. We’re finishing up a second Ice Cream Bike in time for this Saturday’s festival. We’re hoping for a hot day!

The mission of the Bicycle Music Festival is to promote sustainable culture in general and bicycle culture in particular, by physically engaging and immersing our community in the magic of bike culture, and cultivating and nurturing a network of local sustainable musicians, through our staging of free, community participatory, bicycle-based music events.
The Bicycle Music Festival is the largest 100% bicycle-powered music festival in the world. The free, all-day (and late into the night) event takes place annually in San Francisco, California on the Saturday closest to the summer solstice.
The Bicycle Music Festival features: a 2000 watt pedal-powered PA system, as many as 15 bands, multiple festival stops, outrageous Critical Mass-style bicycle party caravans between festival stops, and zero use of cars or trucks.
With its completely bike-haulable stage, the event is packed up and deployed numerous times: staged sequentially at different public parks and also on a moving “Live On Bike” stage which rolls down city streets.
The San Francisco Bicycle Music Festival is the largest 100% bicycle-powered music festival in the world!
Featuring the original fully bike-portable Pedal-Powered sound stage, mobile LiveOnBike performances, and over a dozen Bay Area musical acts, the Bicycle Music Festival is a free annual event founded in 2007. Taking place on the Saturday closest to the Summer Solstice, the Festival runs all-day (and late into the night) and has been called “the greenest music festival ever conceived.” It has showcased the music of prominent and talented local artists such as Sean Hayes, Manicato, Oona Garthwaite, Tornado Rider, Jazz Mafia, and more.
It is also the most imminently-grantable and underfunded community arts and environment program around…
In 2010, we evolved from our humble roots as a guerrilla-style operation to a fiscally-sponsored non-profit project under the auspices of the San Francisco Parks Trust’s Park Partner program. Armed with a 501(c)(3) tax ID, we successfully raised about $3,500 for permits and supplies, including a $1,500 Community Arts Grant from the Zellerbach Foundation.
For 2011, Bicycle Music Festival (the entity that produces the SF Bicycle Music Festival) is in need of a grant writer who appreciates the mission, the culture, and has the skills and passion necessary to help us fund a 2011 budget of $10,000-$15,000.
Ideally, the Grant Writer will be paid out of the grant itself, although another pay arrangement based on our collective ability to raise money may be possible. Interested persons should send a short email explaining some combination of your background as a grant-writer, your passion for bicycles/sustainability/community empowerment, and why you are interested.
Email: jeff@bicyclemusicfestival.com with letters of interest and/or questions.
This is the projected route map that the Bicycle Music Festival LiveOnBike Ride will take between the two venues (Speedway Meadow in GG Park to Showplace Triangle, 16th & Wisconsin).

As always, the Bicycle Music Festival aims to achieve a “Pack-In-Pack-Out” mentality. This means that audience members, volunteers, and musicians – participants of ALL kinds – work together to generate ZERO trash in the parks and streets that BMF passes through.
Please help us by leaving no trace behind you (except for the lovely ringing strains of music!) and pitch in if you can to help clean up at this year’s BMF (July 31!)
You can also help out by Spreading the Word!
BYO-Cup!
Also, this year BMF is bringing back the Bicycle-Blended Smoothies! These delicious fruity delights will cool your belly while you work up a sweat dancing to all the amazing music of the day.
BRING YOUR OWN CUP and GET A DISCOUNT! Help us generate less trash and bring your own cup to fill at the smoothie station.
